Bloons TD 6
- Reviewed on Mobile -
The Bloons TD series by Ninja Kiwi was one of the first tower defense game series that I ever invested time into, and it really opened up this genre of gaming that I have grown to adore.
Bloons TD 6 released on June 14th, 2018.
As the name implies, Bloons TD 6 is the sixth installment in the official Ninja Kiwi Bloons TD series.
I have been a fan of this series for years now and I can truly say, this Bloons TD title is the best in the whole series for many reasons.
This review WILL have Major Spoilers so keep that in mind before continuing...
One aspect of this game that overcomes all others is how addictive this game is.
Bloons TD 6 is by far the most addictive mobile game I have ever played, and this game has been installed on my iPhone for the longest time now and I don't see myself deleting it anytime soon.
For newcomers of this series, the Bloons TD series by Ninja Kiwi is a tower defense game (hence the abbreviation TD) where you play as various Monkeys and try to stop hordes of balloons from reaching the exit.
Talking specifically now on Bloons TD 6, one aspect of the game I truly love is that this is not a pay to win game.
Yes, you have to buy the game with real money to play it but afterwards you can enjoy the entire game (that is constantly updated) without being hit with another paywall.
Especially considering this is a mobile game (and a PC game), most mobile games are microtransaction heavy and I am glad Ninja Kiwi did not cave into this way of playing / creating.
You can buy extra in-game cash with real money, but this in-game money can all be earned from playing the actual game.
Buying in-game currency with real money just saves you time if you don't feel like completing levels, which honestly is no fun if you just skip ahead like that.
Bloons TD 6 has a plethora of Monkey variations at your disposal.
These Monkeys include (at the time of writing this blog post)...
- Alchemist
- Banana Farm
- Bomb Shooter
- Boomerang Monkey
- Dart Monkey
- Druid
- Engineer Monkey
- Glue Gunner
- Heli Pilot
- Ice Monkey
- Monkey Ace
- Monkey Buccaneer
- Monkey Sub
- Monkey Village
- Mortar Monkey
- Ninja Monkey
- Sniper Monkey
- Spike Factory
- Super Monkey
- Tack Shooter
- Wizard Monkey
One new feature in Bloons TD 6 which I believe really made this game a hit, is the new Monkey Heroes which serve as a one-time use, strong leader that all have their own special attacks.
These Monkey Heroes are (at the time of writing this blog post)...
- Quincy
- Gwendolin
- Striker Jones
- Obyn Greenfoot
- Etienne
- Captain Churchill
- Benjamin
- Ezili
- Pat Fusty
- Adora
- Admiral Brickell
I like this new feature to the Bloons TD series but my one gripe with this feature is that it is very expensive to get these heroes.
With a range of 2,500 to 5,000 in-game cash, you really have to save up and play a lot of maps or buy in-game cash with real money to get these very helpful Heroes (Monkey's).
Upgrading your Monkey's in Bloons TD 6 is similar to other Bloons TD titles in which you have to use the specific Monkey in battle to gain experience to unlock these upgrades.
Again, this was another fun and easy to understand game mechanic that really sucked me in and gave me that sense of addiction in which I simply could not stop playing.
Along with these Monkey upgrades (tiers), there is also Knowledge that you can obtain in these purple books, and they serve as another source of upgrading.
The difference between the experience upgrades and knowledge upgrades is that knowledge upgrades are for the different groups of Monkeys, for example, Primary, Military, Magic, Support, etc.
These Knowledge upgrades give these specific Monkeys in their respective groups, small bonuses like faster xp, extra cash, free monkeys at the start, etc.
Multiplayer is not my favorite game mode for various reasons. Bloons TD 6 to me, feels like a single player experience more than a multiplayer experience.
This doesn't mean the multiplayer was boring to me, it means that multiplayer has a lot of flaws in my book. These flaws include mandatory waiting for others to connect (or reconnect), sudden lag, freezing, or even being kicked out for no reason.
Bloons TD 6 is my favorite in the series but this game crashes all the time when I get to really high-level rounds, at least on mobile devices like my iPad Mini. Other than the crashes and the multiplayer mode, Bloons TD 6 is definitely worth your time and money to play / enjoy!
Pros:
- Not Microtransaction Heavy
- Lots of Fun Maps
- Constantly Updated
- Upgrades (Experience & Knowledge)
- Plenty of Different Monkeys (Towers)
- Generous Rewards
Cons:
- Sudden Lag on Multiplayer
- Game Crashes on High Level Rounds
- Expensive Heroes
My Rating for Bloons TD 6 (on Mobile):
4 / 5
