House Flipper
- Reviewed on Switch -
The game puts you in a small, two room office where your journey as a contractor (flipper) begins.
One last aspect of House Flipper I didn't like / enjoy was the repetitive nature of the game and its assets.
House Flipper released on May 17th, 2018.
As a simulation game, House Flipper is a fun and relaxing game to sit down and play while listening to other things like music, podcasts, radio, etc.
I don't play this game seriously like a first-person shooter or a multiplayer game, instead I play this game to relax and wind down and, in my eyes, I believe that was the goal from the developers.
This review WILL have Major Spoilers so keep that in mind before continuing...
I feel like this game is a one-time deal in a sense where you will buy this game, be addicted to it for days or even weeks, then be done and never play it again.
Unfortunately, this is what happened to me, but that doesn't mean I had a bad time with the game, I actually loved this game and not because this is my first house building / renovating game, but because this game has / had a lot of relaxing (satisfying) elements to it.
It may be just because I am an organized and cleaning freak, but this game made me want to clean and organize just like I do in real life.
If other people are like me in this way, they will absolutely love this game!
The premise of this game is to go on jobs and help clean, organize, destroy, or build within the property.
It's a fun and enjoyable experience playing this game, the satisfaction of accepting a job, seeing the dirty mess, and then getting paid to clean is very rewarding.
The customization of this game is unbelievable and unexpected, but I had so much fun cleaning my office, redecorating, and then eventually buying a house.
There are a lot of negative aspects to this game unfortunately (at least for me when I played through this game).
Some things that could've been better / improved are the graphics for example, which although they were decent, I feel like the power of the Nintendo Switch could've produced / handled better graphics.
Another mechanic they could've added was NPCs.
They did have NPC dialogue via emails, but I feel like they could've made NPCs show up to the houses and play a significant role in payment for example, or the rules of the job (mission).
One game mechanic which actually drew me away from this game after playing it nonstop for a few days, was the painting mechanic (tool).
This may have been because of the Nintendo Switch, or it could've been the sensitivity but painting in this game was so annoying and so long that I feel like they could've made the tool easier to use.
The game has small sections near windows especially that need to be painted in order to succeed and it was just annoying, and I dreaded seeing the word, painting, in the job descriptions after a while.
Whether its repetitive jobs, houses, tools, etc. this game just felt like it needed to have more content but never took the time to truly make new jobs, houses, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I did love this game when I first started playing it but sadly, like mentioned earlier, it was one of those games that I played a lot of for a bit, then stopped completely.
I really liked how House Flipper didn't force a tutorial session on you, they did something different where they incorporated the tutorials in the game via the actual missions you have to do to level up.
Speaking of leveling up, when you perform a certain amount of each task, for example, painting, destruction, tiling, etc. you can get perk points to use for making these actions become more bearable.
Everyone behind this game strived to make a realistic house flipping game based on the real-life occupation of flippers (contractors).
I believe they did a great job with that aspect, however due to frustrating gameplay I don't see myself playing this game again, but it was a very fun experience to have had.
Pros:
- Very Relaxing
- Lots of Game Tools (Tiling, Painting, Destruction, Selling, etc.)
- Leveling Up
- Perks (for Better Tools)
- Lots of Customization
Cons:
- Bad Graphics (at least for Switch)
- Painting is Unbearable (on Switch)
- Repetitive Nature
- No NPCs (Character Model)
My Rating for House Flipper (on Switch):
3 / 5
