Cuphead

Cuphead released on September 29th, 2017.

Known for its amazing animation and soundtrack, Cuphead takes you on a rage filled adventure either by yourself or with a friend in two player mode.

You play as either Mugman or Cuphead himself.

This review WILL have Major Spoilers so keep that in mind before continuing...

Cuphead is a game that was on my radar for ages before I finally decided to jump into the adventure that was becoming so popular around the world.

The premise of this game is that Cuphead and Mugman made a deal with the devil and their souls are now in possession of the devil himself.

To stop this the two main protagonists must go and defeat lots of bosses to collect their contracts.

Sounds easy enough right?

Well not exactly, as Cuphead is known for being an extremely hard game to beat, even in the beginning of the game!

I'm not much of a fan of the hard difficulty but the satisfaction of beating a boss after dying multiple times over and over again, is what makes Cuphead so enjoyable and addicting.

The art design of the maps, locations, characters, and especially the bosses is what makes Cuphead such a joy to pick up.

The old school music and old school animation in today's modern era of technology is so admirable and is one of the factors of why Cuphead has such a loyal fan base that I'm proud to be a part of.

Every boss has their own combat routine / style that randomizes every time you battle them (or die from them) which forces you to remember their techniques and adjust accordingly.

In Cuphead there are coins throughout the isles that you can collect and use to buy very helpful powers such as an extra hit point (since you only have three to begin with), auto aim, or even a vanishing dash move.

Boss battles aren't the only type of battles for you to accomplish, although, boss battles do matter if you want to make it to the end, these other battles include Mausoleums and Run 'n Gun.

There are three mausoleums to visit and beat in order to gain Supers, which are super powers to use when your meter fills (indicated by cards) during Run 'n Gun missions and of course boss battles.

Run 'n Gun missions are levels you beat by making it to the far-right side of the level, think of Mario levels for example, that's how these Cuphead levels are, but they are extremely hard just like boss battles!

To a lot of people, this game is considered a masterpiece and I can definitely see why and how they think that, but for me personally, although I adore this game, I did find myself taking multiple long breaks from this game.

Normally games that mean a lot to me, I always play beginning to end without breaks, but even though that didn't happen with Cuphead, I still love this game with a passion!

There were some issues with the Run 'n Gun levels where I would jump on a platform and immediately lose a heart because the platform wasn't solid for some reason (specifically the docks / pier level) and I would fall out of the level.

I'm impressed that this game had barely any issues besides the difficulty and the one platform problem, at the end of the day, I highly recommend this game if you are up for a challenge.
