Tomodachi Life

Tomodachi Life released on April 18th, 2013.

Nintendo came up with a brilliant, life simulation title in Tomodachi Life.

With your very own Miis as the main characters in this title, you essentially are in charge of everything on a brand new island, your Miis will eventually call home.

This review WILL have Major Spoilers so keep that in mind before continuing...

As I just mentioned, everything starts with naming your brand new island for your Miis.

I do wish you could customize the look / placement of your island and buildings, but everything else this game has to offer makes up for that inconvenience.

In Tomodachi Life, you are given an apartment building to which you will eventually fill with all sorts of Miis!

You can transfer Miis from your 3DS library of Miis, or make one from scratch within the game.

StreetPass is also an option where you can send your Miis to other peoples islands or receive Miis from other peoples libraries / islands!

Now, the voices Nintendo gave the Miis in this game are a little weird in my opinion and I can't decide if I like it or not.

I'll give credit where credits due, Nintendo didn't have to add voices in this game but the fact that they did that extra step is very admirable, but the result / outcome isn't great considering all the voices, male and female, are robot sounding.

Although humorous, the voice acting can be a little annoying after long gameplay sessions.

Speaking of long gameplay sessions, the enjoyment I get while playing this game is very positive, however, once your Mii(s) don't have anymore problems to solve, whether that be hunger, romance, games, etc. the game can be a little bit boring after a while.

The repetitive dialogue for your Mii(s) when they are hungry for example, is constantly the same for all the Miis and there is no skip dialogue option either, forcing you to hear the same robotic phrases over and over again.

The activities your Miis do when your not with them is pretty neat and enjoyable to watch.

Sometimes when you give a Mii a gift, like a soccer ball for example, that Mii will then travel, on its own to another part of the island and play soccer with other Miis.

These little details in Tomodachi Life literally puts a smile on my face when playing.

Money can be an issue on Tomodachi Life, as items are a little pricey to my liking.

Making money is easy, you can either get daily island donations from your Miis or help your Miis solve their issues.

Problem with that is, you barely get any money from helping your Miis with their problems and if you really want a limited time item, you might not get that opportunity to buy it.

Items you can buy include, clothing, apartment rooms (styles for the rooms), food, drinks, hats, and more.

Mii News is an hourly occurrence as well, where a random Mii on your island talks about new locations opening and really bizarre events that happened when you were away.

Your Miis can have relationships and get married (if you successfully complete the minigame for marriage).

After marriage, your Miis (who are married) can get their own homes which is nice, but I feel is a little boring due to lack of home customization.

I was very excited to pick this game up, and when I did, I had an absolute blast giving my Miis new life, however, after a while (week or so) I got bored of the same routine this game provides and now I don't see myself coming back to my island anytime soon.

This isn't bad for Tomodachi Life, it's still a great title and if you have a 3DS, I highly recommend buying this game.

Pros

    - Good Longevity
    - Plenty of Mii Space
    - Cheerful Game / Atmosphere
    - Plenty of Items to Buy
    - Fun Minigames / Activities

Cons:

    - Very Repetitive Dialogue / Music / Animation
    - Bad Voices for Miis
    - Can't Customize Island (Besides Name)
    - Hard to Earn Money

My Rating for Tomodachi Life (on 3DS):

3 / 5
