Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare released on November 4th, 2016.
Some Call of Duty fans in the community may have their gripes with the futuristic approach Call of Duty has presented itself with before but Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (in my opinion) contains a lot more features and surprises within its range of game modes that overlooks the negativism.
Developers Infinity Ward did a good job telling an engaging story that persuaded me into sticking around and caring about the majority of the characters involved.
This review WILL have Major Spoilers so keep that in mind before continuing...
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has three main game modes, identical to its previous installments.
Almost like every other Call of Duty, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has a Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies.
The campaign (in my opinion) has the most enjoyable gameplay, and the seven-hour (average) story isn't that bad either.
You play as main protagonist Commander Nick Reyes.
Despite his lack of facial expressions / charisma, Nick Reyes is a semi-memorable character that sometimes is overshadowed by his more charismatic counterparts like E3N "Ethan" and / or Lieutenant Nora Salter.
I found the overabundance of protagonist compliments throughout the story quite annoying as well and didn't really help me (as the player) invest in Nick Reyes' character.
As you progress through the campaign, you will eventually enter the hub world, and revisit it after every completed mission.
The hub world is the enormous spaceship named Retribution.
This is where you can read character details, choose missions, watch news reports on your previously completed missions, and even customize your loadouts.
I found this style of campaign very interesting and unique, especially since I've never seen this in a Call of Duty game before.
There are only seven main (campaign) missions, and the rest are optional side missions that, majority of the time, award you with new attachments, trophies, decals, player perks, etc.
Surprisingly, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's campaign doesn't have any collectibles, which was a shocker and disappointment to me personally.
The only "collectible" you can really achieve, is finding and eliminating key antagonist aces in the various main / side missions (viewable in the hub world).
The spaceship you fly / fight in, is called the Jackal, and you can customize its appearance, guns, and upgrades in between missions.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare had a great, unique, and different approach to the campaign that I enjoyed, along with its loadout mechanics.
You can have two different tactical and lethal equipment slots per fight, and these can be refilled / changed mid mission as well, to accompany the various different human (and robotic) enemies you'll face.
In Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the robotic enemies suffer greater damage from energy weapons, and combining these with wall jumping (boosters), sliding, and various attachments, you can do great damage to your enemies, resulting in fun gameplay for all!
Unfortunately, you have a limited number of loadout slots for both your land and air fights (missions).
And to unlock more guns, you have to pick them up and scan them (automatically) when / if you see orange highlighted ones in the field.
Multiplayer is the same as every other Call of Duty in my eyes (and probably always will be). You have your different maps, loadouts, game mode types, and more to choose from and enjoy.
Although not as memorable for me, Call of Duty multiplayer has always been a Call of Duty highlight for most, and you won't be disappointed with Infinite Warfare's selection of maps, guns, modes, etc.
Zombies actually is a lot more fun in Infinite Warfare (to me), and I really enjoyed the humorous approach Zombies in Spaceland (and other DLC maps) took with their characters and gameplay.
In the end, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has a must play Campaign and Zombie mode for your avid Call of Duty fan.
Despite the futuristic negativity Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has received; I still recommend giving Infinite Warfare (at least the Campaign) a try, if you haven't already.
Pros:
- Great Story (Although not too Memorable)
- Outstanding Hub World
- Nice Graphics / Lighting
- Good Voice Acting
- Interesting and Varied Side Characters (Cast)
- Very Fun / Addicting Zombie Maps
- Spaceship Fighting Missions
Cons:
- No Collectibles
- Lack of Protagonist Charisma
- Little Replayability (Mostly Campaign)
- Same / Stale Multiplayer
My Rating for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (on PS4):
4 / 5
