Five Nights at Freddy's
- Reviewed on Mobile -
I love this premise for a horror game, the gameplay is / was very simple and easy to understand and it makes your heart rate go crazy once you notice that power level go down.
With ten rooms to check and one audio only room, there is a lot in store for you when you try to survive.
Five Nights at Freddy's released on July 23rd, 2014.
A cult classic in the eyes of horror fans worldwide, what started out as an indie game, Five Nights at Freddy's turned into a juggernaut in the horror genre of gaming.
This review WILL have Major Spoilers so keep that in mind before continuing...
Scott Cawthon is the developer, creator, and publisher of the Five Nights at Freddy's series and much power to him for creating this game / series, as it has made a huge impact in its genre.
The game play is very short and simple and easy to learn from the start.
The game contains five nights of survival horror as you play as a night officer of some sorts, and you have to contain the power in order to complete the night, and survive.
You get a phone call every night by a mysterious, unnamed gentlemen who apparently used to work in your position and has seen the true secret horrors of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria.
Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria is of course the setting for Five Nights at Freddy's however there is no walking around in this game.
Instead you are in the office at all times and you have to watch the security cameras all night until six in the morning (starting at midnight).
What are you looking for? Your mission is to make sure the animatronics don't slaughter you during your night shift.
This is why power is a main stay in this game, as if you use the cameras too much or have the doors / lights on / closed too much, your power drains and once your power is gone, game over.
Scott found the perfect formula for a horror game in which he made terrifying enemies, a meter you have to keep active, no music, small space, and of course lots of jump scares.
Everyone has their opinion on jump scares, some might think its a lazy game tactic from developers to get a cheap pop from you (the player) but others (myself included) like that adrenaline rush after experiencing a jump scare and it can get you to continue playing as well.
Playing this game is non stop stress inducing, as your goal is to (like mentioned earlier) survive the night shift between midnight and six in the morning.
Every night also increases the animatronics' difficulty level, starting at night one, all the way to night five (hence the name Five Nights at Freddy's).
The best aspect to this game (in my opinion) is the fact (besides the main menu) that there is absolutely no music while monitoring the cameras and keeping the lights and doors secured.
The only thing you can do in this game is check the cameras, turn on / off lights to the two office doors, and open / close the doors when needed.
The animatronics to keep an eye on are named...
- Freddy Fazbear
- Bonnie
- Chica
- Foxy
Along with these animatronics, comes special characteristics as well.
Chica will sometimes be in the audio only room and always appear on the right side of the pizzeria (and it's cameras).
Foxy will occasionally run down the hallway and you have to be quick to close the door.
Bonnie will always be stalking you (acts like the default / basic killer of the group)
Finally, Freddy Fazbear is normally only there to kill you after you lose power (and after an end game melody).
Five Nights at Freddy's is the worlds most popular horror game series and only seems to be getting bigger and bigger.
Even though Five Nights at Freddy's isn't my favorite horror game of all time, it still has a special place in my heart as one of the first major horror games I have gotten into and I highly recommend giving this game a try!
Pros:
- Easy to Understand Controls
- Terrifying Enemies
- Nice Story Lore
- Simple Game Concept
- Horrifying Jump Scares
Cons:
- No Music
- Lots of Waiting
- Unfair Enemy Speeds (Later Levels)
My Rating for Five Nights at Freddy's (on Mobile):
3 / 5
