Minecraft

Minecraft released on November 18th, 2011.

No one can underestimate the impact Minecraft has had on the gaming industry.

For over a decade now (as of writing this blog post), Minecraft has stayed continuously updated and provides gamers of all experience levels, a fun and investing time in their own sandbox world.

Whether you want to beat the game, or just build to your hearts content, Minecraft is the absolute definition of infinite possibilities (in my opinion).

This review WILL have Major Spoilers so keep that in mind before continuing...

For those who somehow, don't know what Minecraft is about, Minecraft is an open world, sandbox title that allows you (and many others in multiplayer) to do anything you possibly want to do.

The basis of Minecraft is to mine for essentials like ore, and also build (craft) what you need / want, hence the name "Mine Craft".

There are multiple game modes for you to choose from when starting a new world.

These modes can be either Survival, Creative, or Hardcore (as of writing this blog post).

The endless possibilities (as mentioned earlier) when loading a new world, is what truly drives me back to this game over and over again.

Minecraft has possibly the best longevity than any other game I've played (so far).

On top of that, Minecraft is constantly being updated to stay fresh and relevant in today's gaming culture / world.

You have the option to start a new world with a bonus chest and a starting (empty) map.

The majority of new worlds start with the player punching a tree. Doing this allows you to open up a whole new world of enjoyment, this case being the crafting.

There are tons of tools / weapons to create. These also have different variations as well, including wood, stone, iron, gold, etc.

Animals are present in this title for you to either slaughter, farm, breed, or just keep as a pet! Again, you can do whatever you feel like, it's your world!

There are indeed trophies / achievements in Minecraft that can give you a purpose to continue, even if you beat the game.

Speaking of beating the game, the way you beat the game is by visiting The End and defeating the Ender Dragon.

You'll need a lot of preparation, and the way to get there isn't exactly, right there for you in the open.

You'll have to (SPOILER) most likely visit another world called the Nether and collect blaze rods. This can be combined with ender pearls to find the Stronghold in the overworld (the beginning, main world).

Endermen are the popular way to get ender pearls, but not the only way. Blazes are the mob to fight for blaze rods as well.

These are just two of many mobs Minecraft has. Minecraft has over 30 mobs (as of writing this blog post), and most likely will have more in future updates.

The music in Minecraft is the most debatable (in my opinion).

Some might enjoy the classical music it offers, but honestly, I normally play Minecraft while listening to other things.

The worlds Minecraft randomly generates for players is always different, unless you use the same seed (which is a number / word you can put in, while creating the world).

I bring this up because the number of biomes / attractions in Minecraft's world(s) is always a joy to see / explore. There are jungle, forest, desert, and snow biomes (just to name a few) for you to explore, mine, or even live in.

On top of this, there are attractions in the Nether and The End. The Nether can have fortresses, while The End could have the End City.

Enchantments are used in Minecraft to give your weapons, tools, or even armor, a magical boost / trait.

You can repair tools and even trade with Villagers.

There are plenty of crops you can plant, and watch grow such as seeds (for wheat) and even pumpkins.

These crops shouldn't go unnoticed (not treated), as they provide the ability to breed certain animals like Sheep, Cows, Chickens, Pigs, etc.

You can have a farm animal as a pet, sure, but the "actual" pets in Minecraft can be a dog or even cat.

Multiplayer is of course a must play / try. Even if you prefer single player (like me), you have to give this game a try in its multiplayer modes.

Minecraft is so detailed and diverse, that others have created minigame type features within Minecraft. You can join servers in Minecraft and enjoy these minigames.

Customization is available as well, with the inclusion of different player skins and texture packs for all platforms.

There are many spin offs and even bad knock offs of Minecraft, but nothing can take away the amount of joy / relaxation Minecraft can provide for its worldwide fanbase.

Pros

    - Infinite Possibilities
    - Great Longevity
    - Fun Multiplayer
    - Stays Updated
    - Plenty of Servers for Minigames
    - Creative Mode
    - Plenty of Platforms to Play On

Cons:

    - Okay, but Not Interesting Music
    - Lag when Doing Split Screen

My Rating for Minecraft (on PS4):

5 / 5
