Batman: The Telltale Series

Batman: The Telltale Series released on November 14th, 2017.

Developed by Telltale Games, this narrative-driven adventure dives deep into the psyche of Bruce Wayne, offering a fresh perspective on the Dark Knight saga.

This review WILL have Major Spoilers so keep that in mind before continuing...

What sets this game apart right off the bat is its laser focus on character development—not just Batman, but especially Bruce Wayne.

The story unfolds over five episodes, blending mystery, political intrigue, and personal drama into a tightly woven narrative that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

You start just as a major crime boss is assassinated, throwing Gotham into chaos and thrusting Bruce Wayne back into the spotlight.

The game masterfully explores the duality of Bruce and Batman, making you juggle his public persona, personal relationships, and vigilante duties all at once.

Along the way, you interact with key Gotham figures like Alfred, Selina Kyle, Harvey Dent, and even familiar villains like Oswald Cobblepot (The Penguin).

The game peels back layers on these characters, often challenging your assumptions and forcing you to make tough moral choices that affect their fates—and the fate of Gotham itself.

Political corruption, family secrets, and shifting alliances all play into a complex story where every choice matters.

Your decisions can lead to different alliances, betrayals, or resolutions, making the narrative feel alive and personal.

The branching choice system is classic Telltale and remains a huge draw.

Each decision shapes your playthrough uniquely, making multiple runs both necessary and genuinely enjoyable. The longevity factor is strong here.

Visually, the comic book art style is stunning.

It perfectly captures the noir mood and gritty tone of Gotham.

The Switch 2 version delivers near-perfect load times and crisp graphics that really bring the world to life.

Voice acting deserves special mention.

Every character’s performance feels polished and genuine, adding layers of emotion and depth to the story.

Notable voice actors include Troy Baker as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Enn Reitel as Alfred Pennyworth, and Laura Bailey as Selina Kyle, all of whom bring a captivating presence to their roles.

That said, there are a couple of immersion hiccups.

Sometimes, right before a new scene starts, the game shows a still frame of the character positioning itself. It’s a minor quirk but noticeable enough to pull you out of the moment.

Also, during public speaking scenes, the audio makes it sound like there’s a massive crowd, but visually there are only about five NPCs present.

Given the Switch 2’s power, it’s surprising the game doesn’t handle a fuller crowd to match the audio atmosphere.

One feature I absolutely love is how your save data carries over to the sequel.

It’s a smart touch that makes your decisions feel truly impactful across the series.

Overall, Batman: The Telltale Series on Switch 2 is a must-play for fans of narrative adventures and Batman alike.

It combines strong storytelling, beautiful art, and meaningful choices into an unforgettable experience.
