SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide

SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide released on November 18th, 2025.

Developed by Purple Lamp Studios and published by THQ Nordic, this latest SpongeBob adventure continues the studio’s tradition of delivering high-quality, modern SpongeBob games.

Having loved their Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, I was thrilled to see them tackle another underwater romp with the Krusty Crew.

This review WILL have Major Spoilers so keep that in mind before continuing...

From the opening moments, Titans of the Tide delivers charm, humor, and action in spades.

The original voice cast returns, giving life to SpongeBob, Patrick, and friends in a way that fans—both young and adult—will deeply appreciate.

Even as an adult myself, I found myself laughing at some of Patrick’s surprisingly cheeky lines.

The plot kicks off with a classic SpongeBob twist, sending our heroes on a mission to stop a new threat from flooding Bikini Bottom with chaos.

The story is entertaining and funny, though slightly shorter than I would’ve liked. Even so, it’s long enough to provide a satisfying adventure while sprinkling in clever humor for fans of all ages.

Gameplay is where Titans of the Tide really shines.

Combat is fast, fluid, and genuinely satisfying. SpongeBob’s bubbling attacks and Patrick’s grappling and throwable enemy mechanics feel weighty and fun.

Patrick quickly became my favorite character to play, not only because of his powers but also due to the delightfully chaotic combat options.

The ability to switch between SpongeBob and Patrick on the fly, rather than relying on the old bus-travel system, was a fantastic addition that makes combat and exploration feel fresh.

Platforming and parkour mechanics are also well-designed.

SpongeBob’s karate kicks and Patrick’s underground digging add variety to movement, keeping the experience engaging throughout.

Side activities—like Plankton’s challenges, Krabby Patty mini-games, and other collectible-focused quests—boost replayability and longevity.

Speaking of collectibles, the game is packed with them.

Photo filters, additional health, costumes, hub world decorations, and flying coins give players plenty to chase after.

I especially loved the hub world—it’s a clever addition that gives the game more personality and charm than previous SpongeBob titles.

Visually, the Switch 2 handles the game beautifully. Crisp, vibrant graphics bring Bikini Bottom to life, and fast loading screens (those “Later” splash screens!) keep the momentum going. I can’t help but say them in my French narrator voice every time—they’re iconic.

That said, the game isn’t without flaws.

Some locations felt less impressive than in previous SpongeBob titles, and the story’s length left me wanting more.

Frame rate drops during later levels on the Switch 2 were frustrating, especially given the console’s capabilities.

Music is hit-or-miss: while remixes of classic tracks like Jellyfish Fields are fun, much of the soundtrack wasn’t memorable, and some areas even felt completely silent.

Minor glitches are also present, though nothing game-breaking.

Overall, SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is a fantastic entry for SpongeBob fans.

It combines humor, combat, collectibles, and creative platforming in a package that’s clearly made by people who love the franchise.

Despite a few shortcomings, it’s a joy to play and definitely worth diving into.
