Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

- Reviewed on  PS3  - Uncharted: Drake's Fortune released on November 19th, 2007. Developed by Naughty Dog, who are responsible for many excellent, single player experiences, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is yet another great single player phenomenon that capitalizes on the treasure hunting trope. The sheer success of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has even resulted in the Uncharted series expanding into more games and even more adventure.  Not to mention, Uncharted getting its own movie adaptation in 2022 as well! This review WILL have  Major Spoilers  so keep that in mind before continuing... Right when you start the game, your already immersed in how grand the protagonist, Nathan Drake's adventure is going to be, with the Indiana Jones inspired title screen theme song. The game plays in a Third Person perspective, and also involves shooting, parkour, puzzles, and an amazing story about (SPOILER) Nathan Drake trying to find the lost treasure of El Dorado before ...

Paper.io 2

- Reviewed on  Switch  - Paper.io 2 released on August 9th, 2018.  Developed by Voodoo, and serving as Paper.io's sequel, Paper.io 2 is an enjoyable, satisfying, and addicting multiplayer (or single player) experience for all ages! Simple to understand, fun music, and plenty of unlockables makes Paper.io 2 a worthy addition to any gamer's library. This review WILL have  Major Spoilers  so keep that in mind before continuing... Paper.io 2 is all about controlling your player and filling up portions of the maps by drawing lines and connecting it back to your colored territory.  When you play (at least on single player mode) Paper.io 2, the maps are actually blank canvases of real-world states.  You start in Europe, and as you successfully fill a certain amount (over various games if needed) of the state, you'll unlock new states, and even get to decide which ones to do next. As you play the actual game, there will be lots of other players trying to ...

Star Wars Battlefront

- Reviewed on  PS4  - Star Wars Battlefront released on November 17th, 2015. Developed by DICE, and nominated for multiple awards, Star Wars Battlefront is an action / shooter title, based in the extremely popular Star Wars franchise. Although offline modes are present, a lot of the game's core features can only be enjoyed by being online with the recommended online (paid) services per console. This review WILL have  Major Spoilers  so keep that in mind before continuing... Star Wars Battlefront is a great joy for Star Wars and non Star Wars fans alike.  The game mechanics for its various missions are easy to learn, a delight to see (thanks to its amazing graphics), and the sound effects are unbelievable! From the crisp main menu, you only have a handful of modes to choose from. My biggest gripe with Star Wars Battlefront is the lack of story mode.  However, its succeeding title does include a single player story so if players were interested in this s...

The Legend of Korra: A New Era Begins

- Reviewed on  3DS  - The Legend of Korra: A New Era Begins released on October 28th, 2014.  Based in the world of Avatar, The Legend of Korra: A New Era Begins is a turn-based strategy game that actually takes place during books (seasons) two and three of the mainline series.  Though Avatar fans would enjoy this title, the laggy input, absurd cutscenes, and dated graphics wouldn't appeal to audiences (I feel) now a days.  This review WILL have  Major Spoilers  so keep that in mind before continuing... The Legend of Korra: A New Era Begins revolves around Korra being stripped of her bending.  The first few missions in this 3DS title are to familiarize the player(s) with how the turn-based combat works.  After you complete missions, you'll eventually unlock the Water, Earth, Fire, and Air bending elements.  This game mechanic blends in well with the mediocre story of Korra facing these chi-blockers and facing off against a new a...

The House of the Dead: Remake

- Reviewed on  PS4  - The House of the Dead: Remake released on April 7th, 2022. With the original game being released all the way back on September 13th, 1996, this remake strived to capture the originals over the top depiction of zombies, and crazy, horrifying monsters in a mansion. I never played the original game (as of writing this blog post), but this Remake of the original House of the Dead, did a good job with its graphics, atmosphere, and music.  Unfortunately, the gameplay wasn't to my liking.  This review WILL have  Major Spoilers  so keep that in mind before continuing... The House of the Dead: Remake (for PS4) uses two different control schemes, each one depicting a truly different and defining way of playing this (average) hour long game.  You can use the normal PS4 controller, or do what I did, and use the PS4 Move Controllers.  The Move Controllers were fun at first, but I soon found out that constantly shooting and reloading ...

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

- Reviewed on  Switch  - Super Mario Bros. Wonder released on October 20th, 2023.  With a lot of players worldwide growing tired of the same 2D Mario, platformer formula, Super Mario Bros. Wonder brought in a ton of gameplay enhancements and also added new gameplay features never before seen in the streamline Mario (2D) series. From the very beginning, you can tell how much love, time, and effort was put into Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and it resulted in such a joyful time filled with amazement, shock, challenges, and more! This review WILL have  Major Spoilers  so keep that in mind before continuing... Right from the get-go, you can see the massive improvements in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The polish in the game is outstanding (as it usually is with Nintendo's first party IPs) and the animations for every single character is beautiful! The simple addition of better animations for these characters (who have felt stale with their stationary former self's) mak...

The Walking Dead Onslaught

- Reviewed on  PSVR  - The Walking Dead Onslaught released on September 29th, 2020. With lots of The Walking Dead video games being released over the years, The Walking Dead Onslaught takes the survivor experience to a whole other level in VR. Developed and published by Survios, The Walking Dead Onslaught tests your real-life abilities in the world of "Walkers" and the apocalypse by incorporating real arms movement(s), fast reactions, and much more. This review WILL have  Major Spoilers  so keep that in mind before continuing... I was extremely excited to try this VR title as I adore The Walking Dead universe and love the characters, lore, and overall atmosphere in general. Quite possibly my favorite zombie related media all together (as of writing this blog post), entering the world in VR (specifically PSVR with its motion controllers) heightens the horror genre / aspect intensively and truly tests your bravery, marksmanship, and passion. With this being said, ...
